WATCH: 'Payback time' as Magnussen takes boss Guenther Steiner on a hot lap in a NASCAR

Kevin Magnussen made a sensational return to F1 at the start of this season with Haas – but Team Principal Guenther Steiner was briefly given cause to regret his decision to bring the Dane back into the fold when he was taken on a hot lap of the Charlotte Motor Speedway in a NASCAR-style stock car by Magnussen.

The outing started with a smile, Steiner bantering “is this payback for all the **** I gave you over the weekend?” in reference to his charge’s checkered performance in the Miami Grand Prix – where a collision with both Daniel Ricciardo and later Lance Stroll forced the Dane to retire with damage.

But once they set off for the hot lap, the smile turned to something resembling a grimace as Magnussen put his foot down and gave his boss an outing to remember.

Fortunately, Steiner’s sense of humour returned as the car pulled to a halt, and it seems like the two remain friends for now – although Magnussen making a return to his points-scoring ways this weekend in Spain would surely go some way to keeping his boss in a good mood.
