Stroll 'fortunate' to get away with FP1 crash
It was a far from straight forward opening day for Racing Point's Lance Stroll in Mexico, with the Canadian driver losing control and slamming into the barriers at the final corner midway through FP1 - a mistake he admits he was lucky to get away with relatively unscathed...
"In the first session I managed to get out of the barrier, get the car back [to the pits] and get the long run in, so I was quite fortunate to get away with that one," he said.
Stroll went on to complete 21 laps in FP1 as he finished one place ahead of team mate and home hero Sergio Perez in P16. The duo rose to P11 and P12 respectively in FP2, leaving them optimistic of getting amongst the top 10 in qualifying on Saturday.
