WATCH: Radio Rewind – listen to the best moments from an eventful 2001 Malaysian Grand Prix
The 2001 Malaysian Grand Prix was truly an eventful race, and you can relive it all through the eyes and ears of the drivers in our Radio Rewind.
It had it all, from Giancarlo Fisichella’s mishap at the start in finding his grid spot to Juan Pablo Montoya rushing down the pit lane to fetch the spare car.
There was drama early on with Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello both leaving the circuit as heavy rain hit the track. As the heavens opened several more cars followed suit in sliding off – leading to legendary broadcaster Murray Walker coining it a ‘power boat race’.
GRILL THE GRID: Plenty of laughs as the drivers guess who the quotes are about
The action continued with both Ferrari cars enduring an endless wait thanks to a pit stop error – but that didn’t faze a certain Schumacher.
With the track drying out the German would slice through the field to take victory in a race that – as he mentioned – couldn’t possibly be described as boring.
