Pole-sitter Max Verstappen made the perfect getaway to keep hold of his lead at the Monaco Grand Prix, with the Red Bull driver staying ahead of rival Fernando Alonso at the start – although there was plenty of drama and contact at the back of the grid.
With a mix of tyre compounds on the grid, Verstappen made a fast start on the medium tyre, keeping the lead ahead of Alonso, on the hards. Meanwhile Esteban Ocon kept a hold of third place ahead of the squabbling pair of Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton.

While all drivers in the top-10 kept their positions, there was plenty of action at the back as Nico Hulkenberg collided with the Williams of Logan Sargeant – for which the Haas driver received a five-second time penalty – while the other Aston Martin of Lance Stroll was also caught up in the incident.
