Max Verstappen could become a three-time world champion in Qatar this weekend, and his efforts got off to the perfect start with a sublime pole for Sunday's Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver topped the times with his first, and only, lap in Q3 as he finished 0.441s ahead of second-placed George Russell.
He could go on to clinch his third title on Saturday, when attention turns to the Sprint Shootout and the Sprint itself, but for now Verstappen has done all he can to put himself in the best place possible to score another Grand Prix victory – what could be his 14th of the season.
