Williams Team Principal Jost Capito tests positive for Covid-19 ahead of Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

Williams CEO and Team Principal Jost Capito has tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of this weekend's inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Capito, who took over as Williams chief in February 2021 amid changes under new owners Dorilton Capital, will miss the penultimate round of the season as a result.

Formula 1 released the following statement: "The FIA and Formula 1 can confirm that Williams Racing CEO and Team Principal Jost Capito has tested positive for COVID-19 prior to travelling to Jeddah for this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

"Jost is now following UK national health authority guidelines. There has been no wider impact on Williams Racing personnel and the team will continue to operate trackside as planned."

Williams sit eighth in the constructors' championship, 12 points ahead of Alfa Romeo, with two races remaining this year.

The team will be paying tribute to founder Sir Frank Williams at this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, following the legendary squad chief’s death at the age of 79 last week.
