Documentaries, Tech Talk, the Mid-Season Review and more – What to watch on F1 TV during the summer break

As the days of the mid-season break continue to tick by and the longing for Formula 1 action intensifies, F1 TV has all you need to satisfy that hunger before racing returns later this month.

With exclusive documentaries, race shows, features, analysis, and the official F1 archive, F1 TV is a veritable smorgasbord of Formula 1 content.

If you’ll allow us to continue with the food metaphors, then before binging on everything F1 TV has to offer, may we recommend the following delectable selections for you to sample…

The Mid-Season Review Show

It’s hard to believe that we’re already halfway through the season. Twelve races completed and we’ve witnessed a masterclass from Red Bull – but there’s been plenty happening elsewhere in the paddock too.

The Milton Keynes outfit deserve all the plaudits they’re getting, having won every race of the campaign so far. There’s been no lack of effort happening behind them, however – Aston Martin started the year strongly before Mercedes began battling back, Ferrari are working hard to get to where they want to be, while a recent uptick in form at McLaren has seen them return towards the sharp end of the grid.

Further down the order, we’ve seen Daniel Ricciardo return to the F1 grid with AlphaTauri as they look to haul themselves up the order in a fight that sees just eight points separating the bottom four teams.

Before the Dutch Grand Prix kicks off the second half of the season, join Laura Winter, Will Buxton and Jolyon Palmer as they review 2023 so far, and look at what’s still to come in the final ten races.

Beyond All Limits

Before the 2023 season started, F1 Digital Presenter Will Buxton picked Beyond All Limits as must-see TV – and it’s easy to see why.

The current three-part series provides a captivating look at the 2021 season – that titanic title battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen – and brings F1 World Champions, experts, and journalists together to look at what it takes mentally for a driver to race in Formula 1, handle the pressure, and be the best.

Later this month a brand-new series of the show arrives on F1 TV, offering even more insight into the driver psyche from current racers and some of the best to ever grace the sport.

Continuing that special blend of newly recorded and archive interviews just like the first, this latest series is not to be missed.

Tech Talk

If phrases like 'ground effect', 'pull-rod suspension' and 'front wing endplate' are music to your ears, then you really can’t go far wrong with Tech Talk – an educational series exploring everything you need to know about Formula 1 and the technology of the sport.

Whether it’s how hybrid technology powers an F1 car or what goes into creating the track surface at a race circuit, each episode looks at the tech that makes Formula 1 what it is – and they’re viewer friendly, no matter how long you’ve been a fan.

In the paddock, technical expert Albert Fabrega uses inventive props in his tech demos, while Sam Collins, Craig Scarborough and special guests explain more from the F1 TV studio.

And given F1 is such a technology-heavy sport, so there are plenty of episodes available to watch during the summer break.

Race Shows

It would perhaps be too easy to suggest you can simply while away the summer break by delving into the official F1 archive to relive some of the greatest races in the history of the sport – so instead, why not check out some of the Pre-Race or Post-Race shows from the first half of this season?

Take the Canada Pre-Race Show for example, where F1 Correspondent & Presenter Lawrence Barretto challenged Carlos Sainz to a game of squash in Montreal – and risked being thrown into the rowing lake at the circuit if he lost. We won’t spoil the result here!

Elsewhere at the Circuit de Gilles-Villeneuve, Laura Winter joined FIA Safety Car driver Bernd Maylander for a high-speed lap of the track in the mixed conditions that played havoc with the teams' preparations that weekend.

Chasing The Dream

If you’re in the mood for something a little different but that still has that motor sport flavour, then check out Chasing The Dream – the docuseries following the young drivers in Formula 2 fighting to make it into Formula 1.

The latest series continues with the shorter episode format introduced in Series 4 and goes behind the scenes to lift the lid on the highs and lows the drivers experience on the road to F1.

Wonderfully put together, Chasing The Dream is a chance to get closer to the stars of tomorrow and is well worth your time.
