F2: Ferrari junior Robert Shwartzman triumphs in Silverstone Sprint Race 1

Ferrari Junior Robert Shwartzman’s upturn of form continued in the first Formula 2 Sprint Race of the Silverstone weekend, with the Ferrari junior launching his PREMA from fourth to first at the start. The Russian went on to control the action around the Northamptonshire circuit ahead of Red Bull junior Juri Vips and Alpine Academy driver Christian Lundgaard.

After suffering retirements in both of the opening two rounds of the season, the Russian has firmly turned his season around with two Sprint Race 1 wins in a row, moving him up to second in the drivers’ championship.

F2: Piastri takes maiden pole at Silverstone as Shwartzman crash brings out red flag

Reverse polesitter Lundgaard fell to third after a tricky start, watching on as both Shwartzman and Vips clambered ahead of him when the lights went out. The trio carefully navigated four Safety Cars to finish in that order.

Finishing fourth, Felipe Drugovich took UNI-Virtuosi’s only points of the morning after Guanyu Zhou spun out on Lap 1.

The Alpine junior’s retirement cost him the championship lead, as Oscar Piastri followed up his pole lap in qualifying with a sixth-place finish – behind Theo Pourchaire – to move to the top of the table by two points. Zhou drops to third overall behind Shwartzman.

After finishing 10th, MP Motorsport’s Lirim Zendeli will start from pole on the reversed grid in Sprint Race 2 at 1445 local time. The Feature Race takes place on Sunday at 1050 local time, the grid set by yesterday’s qualifying session.
