F2 title race to go down to the wire as Shwartzman dominates Sprint Race and Ilott falters in Bahrain

Ferrari junior Robert Shwartzman returned to the top step of the Formula 2 podium in style, dominating the Sprint Race from lights-to-flag in Sakhir for his fourth win of the season and his first since Round 7.

Shwartzman kept his slim title hopes alive heading into the season finale, finishing ahead of Nikita Mazepin, who moved up to third in the championship standings with his sixth podium of the year. Louis Deletraz made up an eye-catching 13 places with a stunning charge to third from 16th.

The title race now hangs in the balance heading into the final round. Ferrari junior Mick Schumacher finished seventh to retain his place at the top of the table, but has just 14-points over Callum Ilott with two races to go.

The UNI-Virtuosi racer endured a race to forget after he collided with Jehan Daruvala while attempting to overtake Schumacher. The Briton took the Red Bull junior out of the race and was handed a drive-through penalty, ending his chance of scoring points.

Yuki Tsunoda was also unable to score after a coming together with Marcus Armstrong in the opening laps left him with a puncture and chucked him to the back of the field.

It means the championship will be decided at the final event of the season, next weekend at the Sakhir Grand Prix.
