F3: Hauger beats pole-sitter Leclerc to Race 3 win at wet Hungaroring

Red Bull junior Dennis Hauger continued his relentless run of form in a rain-hampered third Formula 3 race at Budapest, overcoming his pole-sitting PREMA team mate Arthur Leclerc to take a third win of the season and a sixth podium in just 10 races.

The Championship leader started from second but conquered the wet conditions quicker than those around him to pounce on Leclerc in the opening laps, pulling off an audacious move around the outside of Turn 3.

The Ferrari junior adapted and fought back on a drying track, but a late Safety Car brought their battle to a close and led the field across the line.

Jack Doohan headed a trio of chilled out Trident drivers who all finished where they started, with the Red Bull Junior in third, ahead of David Schumacher in fourth and Clement Novalak in fifth. Returning to second in the Drivers’ Championship, Doohan’s podium firmly makes amends for a scoreless Race 2.

It’s advantage Hauger with three rounds of the season to go. The PREMA driver heads into the summer break with a healthy 63-point advantage over Doohan at the top of the championship. Action will resume in just under a month at the end of August in Belgium.
