F3: Hiyu Yamakoshi takes maiden win after red flag in Monte Carlo

Van Amersfoort Racing’s Hiyu Yamakoshi earned his maiden FIA Formula 3 victory in the Sprint Race around Monte Carlo, controlling the encounter from the front and leading from lights to flag.

The Japanese driver lined up on reverse grid pole and converted that into an early lead before the race was neutralised on Lap 2.

Several drivers made contact at the Turn 6 hairpin, leaving debris and multiple cars in need of recovering, bringing out the red flag.

Once racing resumed, Yamakoshi continued to lead, keeping DAMS Lucas Oil driver Gerrard Xie at bay throughout the remainder of the Sprint.

The Chinese driver held onto second for his first podium visit in F3, while third position went to Van Amersfoort’s Bruno del Pino, who earned his second consecutive Sprint Race podium this year with P3.

Pedro Clerot had lined up third on the grid, but a cut across Turn 1 at the original getaway forced him to concede the position to del Pino, who continued his fine start to the 2026 campaign.

Elsewhere, Ugo Ugochukwu earned valuable points in P6 to maintain the lead of the Drivers’ Championship, while rivals Freddie Slater and Théophile Nael made contact in the middle phase of the race and dropped out of the points.
