F3: Prema driver Olli Caldwell wins incident-packed Race 2 in Spain
Share
An uncharacteristically calm opening race of the season in Formula 3 was followed up by chaos in the second, as Olli Caldwell benefitted from two front-row crashes to take a fortuitous first win in the third tier, ahead of Alpine junior Victor Martins and Mercedes academy driver Frederik Vesti.
David Schumacher and reverse pole-sitter Enzo Fittipaldi had exchanged P1 between them for the majority of the race, but collided at the exit of Turn 2 with six laps to go.

Their collision gifted the lead to Matteo Nannini and Dennis Hauger, only for them to come together in the same place four laps later and hand Caldwell a first F3 win.

Juan Manuel Correa scored points in just his second race back in a car, making up five places from P15 to finish 10th. The most impressive climb of the day came from Caldwell’s Prema team mate, Arthur Leclerc, who magnificently rose to 12th from P28, having suffered a puncture at the end of Race 1.
A quartet of Red Bull juniors all made the top 10, with Jonny Edgar, Ayumu Iwasa, Jack Doohan and Jak Crawford finishing sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth. Fellow academy driver, Hauger, will get a chance to make amends from pole in Race 3 on Sunday at 1205 local time.
