Formula 2 unveils new car for 2027 and beyond in Monza launch

Formula 2 has unveiled its latest challenger for the 2027, 2028 and 2029 seasons in a bespoke event held in the paddock at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

The support championship has offered many drivers the opportunity to showcase their talents with the ambition of landing a full-time seat in Formula 1, with recent graduates including current standings leader Kimi Antonelli, Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar and Racing Bulls’ Arvid Lindblad.

F2 has fully embraced that role through the creation of its new car, which features redesigned front and rear wings and the addition of an on-board starter to further evolve the championship, prepare racers for the top tier and encourage closer racing.

It also aligns F2 with the current F1 design philosophy, while retaining the current Dallara chassis to manage costs and continuing to use advanced sustainable fuel supplied by Aramco, as well as Pirelli tyres.

Furthermore, the 2027 car will still be accessible to a wide range of drivers thanks to its unchanged specifications for braking performance, steering effort and cockpit ergonomics.

Bruno Michel, FIA Formula 2 Championship CEO, added: “When working on this new car, our first goal was to ensure it remains the perfect tool to prepare drivers for F1.

“Together with the FIA, we have opted for the current chassis and focused on redesigning the front and the rear wings. This enables us to keep the costs managed, while bringing the design closer to the look of an F1 car while enhancing the F2 car’s ability to deliver close racing.

“We have added an on-board starter that will simplify the operational side for the teams and will allow the drivers to restart their car after spinning or stalling on track, and we’ve been continuing our work with our partners Aramco and Pirelli on driver preparation, sustainability, and providing the fans with a great show.

“Our fans expect the F2 races to be highly entertaining and safe, and this new kit will deliver exactly that.”
