FORMULA 3: Lundgaard secures pole in Monza
Share
Renault F1 junior Christian Lundgaard became the first driver in the Formula 3 Championship to seal a second pole position of the campaign, topping an extremely competitive qualifying session at Monza that featured no fewer than 10 different leaders.
With the track drying out from a rain-hampered Formula 2 session, the grid experimented with the grip on a still-damp circuit in Monza. Leonardo Pulcini, Felipe Drugovich, Liam Lawson and the PREMA trio were amongst those to hold provisional pole in the first half, before Lundgaard smashed their times in the second.
The ART Grand Prix driver battled off Marcus Armstrong and Robert Shwartzman for the quickest lap, mastering the conditions with an expertise that belied his tender years.
With the trio of PREMAs directly behind him and the rain expected to hold off tomorrow, it sets up a potentially thrilling start to Race 1.
