FORMULA 3: Shwartzman edges closer to title with Monza win
Robert Shwartzman put one hand on the Formula 3 Championship crown with three races to go, surging to his first victory since Round 2, with a composed Race 1 drive in Monza.
Following a spat of post-qualifying penalties, PREMA duo Marcus Armstrong and Shwartzman were forced to start the race from seventh and 10th, but made swift progress and with five laps to go, emerged in first and second.
The sight of the Russian ace chasing down his Kiwi team mate evoked memories of their collision in Round 3, when the duo led, but crashed from first and second in the closing laps.
There would be no repeat here, as Shwartzman displayed an improved maturity to coolly and cleanly claim the win, as the race finished under the safety car following a high-speed crash at Parabolica, in which Alex Peroni sustained a broken vertebra.
His win hands Shwartzman a 35-point lead ahead of Daruvala at the top of the standings, with just three races remaining.
