FORMULA 3: Tsunoda takes maiden series win at Monza
Jenzer Motorsport’s Yuki Tsunoda topped a Red Bull Driver academy one-two in Sunday’s race in Italy, which completed a remarkable turnaround of form from the Japanese driver, with his third podium in as many races, and his maiden win in the Formula 3 Championship.
The in-form 19-year-old eventually got the better of the experienced Jake Hughes, after a lengthy battle for first. The HWA RACELAB driver later fell to third, behind MP Motorsport’s Liam Lawson.
Tsunoda endured a slow start to his F3 career, with just two points finishes from his first seven races, but his triumph in Italy, earns him his seventh in a row, and marks him as one to watch next year – if he remains in the Championship.
Outside of the top three, Robert Shwartzman was the only title contender to steal a point, with his eighth-place finish enough to stretch his lead to 33 in the race for the crown.
