FP2 HIGHLIGHTS: All the action as Russell goes quickest in second practice for the Sakhir GP
George Russell has yet to score his first points in Formula 1, almost two years after his debut in the sport. But his speed has never been in question, and he proved on Friday that given the right machinery he could be right on the pace, as he topped the timesheets in both practice sessions for the Sakhir Grand Prix in the Mercedes W11.
A late call-up from Williams, Russell is deputising for Lewis Hamilton – out after testing positive for Covid-19 – and he was up to speed immediately on the shortened Outer Loop circuit layout in Bahrain, fastest in both FP1 and FP2.

Max Verstappen was second quickest in the second practice session as Red Bull looked fast in race trim, while Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon impressed for Racing Point and Renault respectively with P3 and P4.
Ferrari had an evening to forget as Sebastian Vettel spun and could do no better than 16th fastest, while Charles Leclerc was rock bottom of the timesheets, having failed to set a lap time after a mechanical issue kept his SF1000 car in the garage.
