Lando Norris finished fastest in Free Practice 3 ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, the McLaren driver just beating Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc to the top spot.
The Briton posted a 1m 17.600s in the final minutes at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on Saturday, leaving him just 0.001s clear of Antonelli, with Leclerc just one-tenth back.
Once the light went green at the end of the pit lane at 1130 local time Ryo Hirakawa immediately headed out, the Japanese driver replacing Esteban Ocon at Haas for the remainder of the weekend.
The Toyota World Endurance Championship driver had driven in FP1 on Friday and circulated frequently during the final hour of practice to gather vital data and experience ahead of his F1 debut.
Gabriel Bortoleto was another driver to venture out early on, but the Audi man immediately suffered a power unit issue with smoke coming from the back of his car as the Brazilian returned to the pits and failed to set a time.
Home hero Sergio Perez also failed to set a lap, Cadillac deciding to make a precautionary PU change on the Mexican's car ahead of Qualifying.

Antonelli, who stands on the cusp of claiming his maiden drivers' title this weekend, moved to the top of the times approaching the 20-minute mark with a 1m 18.754s on the medium Pirelli tyre, soon lowering the benchmark down a further tenth.
Times continued to tumble approaching the halfway point, Lewis Hamilton posting a 1m 18.268s before Ferrari team mate Leclerc registered a 1m 18.185s and then 1m 18.152s.
It took until less than 20 minutes remained for the leading runners to switch to the soft tyre and focus on outright one-lap pace, George Russell the first to make an attempt and setting a 1m 18.107s, stating "Turn 12 is so bad, there is no rear end".
Norris became the first driver to dip below the 1m 18s barrier, the reigning World Champion setting a 1m 17.873s, before Antonelli went top with a 1m 17.601s, and although Norris improved by a fraction, he still remained more than one-tenth adrift of Antonelli.
Leclerc backed out of his first attempt with the soft tyre after suffering a wide moment during the middle of the lap, eventually jumping up to second with another attempt after a strong final sector.

Drivers continued to exceed the limits, Hamilton suffering a moment of oversteer on the exit of the final corner, while Max Verstappen ran deep at Turn 4.
Norris went fastest in the closing minutes with a 1m 17.600s, just 0.001s clear of Antonelli, which remained fastest at the chequered flag.
Oscar Piastri (McLaren) was fourth behind Leclerc, with Red Bull's Verstappen, Hamilton, Russell, Isack Hadjar (Red Bull) and the Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad completing the top-10.
Nico Hulkenberg (Audi) was P11, from the Alpines of Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly, Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) and Ollie Bearman (Haas).
The order was completed by the Williams of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon, Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), Hirakawa and the Cadillac of Valtteri Bottas.
