George Russell led the way during second practice at the Canadian Grand Prix, the Mercedes driver setting the pace ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris and the other Silver Arrows car of Kimi Antonelli.
After some ups and downs for the team across the European triple header, Mercedes are looking for a better outing in Montreal and have started things off on the right foot as Russell clocked the fastest time of FP2 on a 1m 12.123s.
FP2: Russell narrowly leads Norris and Antonelli in Canada after Stroll strikes the wall
This put him 0.028s clear of Norris, while Antonelli followed in third. Alex Albon continued a good Friday showing for Williams in fourth place and Fernando Alonso slotted into fifth for Aston Martin, the Spaniard becoming the squad’s sole runner for much of the session after Lance Stroll suffered a crash early on.
