HIGHLIGHTS: Catch up on the action from Sao Paulo GP Qualifying as Norris claims pole while Verstappen suffers shock early exit
Lando Norris extended his strong performance in Sao Paulo as he pipped Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc to pole position.
Lando Norris surged to pole position in a remarkably close Qualifying hour in Sao Paulo, beating Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc in a thrilling session.
After taking victory in the earlier Sprint, the McLaren driver was in the best position to return to the top spot once again, but Haas rookie Ollie Bearman didn’t make things easy for him as he put in multiple rapid lap times.
On the first runs in Q3, Norris locked up and found himself six-tenths adrift of his team mate Oscar Piastri, who led Charles Leclerc and Bearman at the top of the timesheets. But at the final opportunity, Norris leapt back up to P1, with Kimi Antonelli improving to P2 with the last lap of Qualifying.
Elsewhere, title contender Max Verstappen was unexpectedly knocked out in Q1 after struggling with a lack of grip. Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton also failed to progress to the top 10 and will start the Grand Prix from 13th on the grid.
