Lewis Hamilton topped the timesheets in the second practice session of Friday at the Italian Grand Prix, narrowly beating Lando Norris by 0.003s in a particularly lively hour, as Carlos Sainz slotted in just behind.
Hamilton set the pace with a 1m 20.738s in the glorious Monza sunshine, with just 0.154s separating the top five drivers as Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari showed rapid speed around the historic circuit.
Many drivers took brief detours off-track, but the most impactful was Kevin Magnussen’s as he lost the rear at Turn 7 and collided with the barriers, bringing out the red flags.
Elsewhere, the Red Bull duo of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez also struggled as they found themselves down in P14 and P15 respectively.
