Charles Leclerc led the way during Friday’s second practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix, as the Ferrari driver stepped up his bid to claim what would be a dream home victory in the Principality.
Leclerc, who has never finished on the podium at the track, worked his way down to a time of 1m 11.278s amid warm but overcast conditions in Monte Carlo to finish just under two-tenths clear of FP1 pace-setter Lewis Hamilton.

There were further brushes with the wall for reigning world champion Max Verstappen, including a thump at Mirabeau Bas, while several other drivers came close to crashing out as they began to push the limits.
Fernando Alonso wound up third, just ahead of Verstappen, who at one point complained that his Red Bull was jumping around “like a kangaroo”, as Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz rounded out the top six positions.
