HIGHLIGHTS: Verstappen rises above early pressure to beat Norris to victory in Italian GP
McLaren team orders were put in the spotlight once again, but it was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who came out on top to secure a confident victory in Monza.
Max Verstappen took his third victory of the 2025 season around the historic Monza circuit, establishing a commanding lead over the McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
A close-fought battle between the Red Bull driver and Norris on the opening lap saw the Briton forced onto the grass before Verstappen cut the corner, resulting in him giving up the lead in order to avoid a penalty.
However, he quickly came back to reclaim first place on the track, remaining there for the majority of the Grand Prix as the frontrunners all elected to extend their first stints on the robust medium tyres.
Piastri was the first McLaren to pit, ending up with a surprise advantage over Norris as the latter suffered a frustrating slow stop and emerged in P3. It looked like the Australian would stay ahead and increase his standings lead, but his engineer quickly ordered him to allow his team mate back past, with Piastri settling for the final podium spot.
Elsewhere, crowd favourites Ferrari put on a strong performance as Charles Leclerc brought home fourth place while Lewis Hamilton improved from 10th to sixth, crossing the line behind George Russell.
