Carlos Sainz scored his fourth career pole at the Italian Grand Prix, sending the Ferrari faithful wild at Monza. Team mate Charles Leclerc took P3 in front of the raucous crowd, with championship leader Max Verstappen sandwiched in between the pair in P2.
There was more joy for the Ferrari pair and the tifosi as both drivers had been under investigation for failing to follow the Race Director’s instructions on maximum lap time in Q1, but as qualifying concluded the message came through from the stewards that there was to be no further action.

Elsewhere in an action-packed qualifying, Alex Albon had another stellar session for Williams to take P6 on the grid for tomorrow’s race, while Alpine had an afternoon to forget – both Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon knocked out in Q1 and set to start P17 and P18 respectively.
Both Sainz and Leclerc will hope to convert their positions and give it their all in tomorrow’s Grand Prix – with the Spaniard yet to set foot on the podium all year – and there is no doubting they will have the support of the home Ferrari fans throughout it all.
