Lewis Hamilton hadn't led a single session at the British Grand Prix this weekend before qualifying, but he made it count when he needed to and grabbed pole – though he had to survive a spin in Q2 to get the job done.

The defending champion recovered from his off in trademark fashion to go on to put in the fastest lap of the weekend at Silverstone - a new track record - and take pole position in the process.
