Fernando Alonso put Aston Martin at the top of the timesheets during second practice for the Canadian Grand Prix, with an initially dry track surface turning wet when more showers arrived over the Montreal area.
Following a largely wet FP1 session, drivers were quick to head out on track and get some dry running under their belts in FP2 – Alonso working his way down to a time of 1m 15.810s to lead Mercedes rival George Russell and team mate Lance Stroll.
However, it did not all go smoothly for the pace-setting Alonso, who was one of several drivers to encounter traffic and take to the radio in frustration, while home favourite Stroll and Haas racer Kevin Magnussen both survived early off-track excursions.
There was also a huge moment for Alex Albon at the final corner, along with drama for Max Verstappen when he encountered an ERS issue on his Red Bull and pitted amid a smell of smoke, before Charles Leclerc suffered a late spin in the damp conditions.
