Zhou Guanyu was the fastest driver in Bahrain on Friday, as the Alfa Romeo man topped the timesheets on day two of pre-season testing ahead of Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso.
Zhou – who was in the car all day and completed 133 laps – set a time of 1m 31.610s on the C5 soft tyre late in the day to lead Red Bull’s Verstappen by 0.040s, with Alonso 0.595s behind in the Aston Martin.
However, Zhou’s day ended abruptly after he stopped at the end of the pit lane late in the second session with an unspecified issue.

It was also a strong end to the day for Nyck de Vries in P4, with the AlphaTauri driver finishing ahead of Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg, Ferrari duo Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc and fellow rookie Logan Sargeant (Williams).
It was, though, a tough day for Mercedes, with George Russell’s evening being cut short after he stopped on track due to a hydraulics issue, briefly bringing out the red flags. The Briton ended the day down in 13th, followed by Lewis Hamilton in 15th.
