It was an action-packed opening practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix as mixed weather conditions, crashes and spins all played their part at the tight and twisty Hungaroring circuit.
Just moments after FP1 had started, Red Bull driver Sergio Perez lost control of his car on the approach to Turn 5, dipping a wheel on the grass, sliding off the track and slamming into the barriers.
Later in the session, after rain had arrived, Carlos Sainz also caused damage to his Ferrari with a wild spin exiting Turn 3, meaning there will be plenty of busy mechanics before FP2 later on Friday.

Amid all the incidents, and after the change in weather conditions, it was George Russell who led the way for Mercedes, with his time of 1m 38.795s on the intermediate tyres 0.359s quicker than the McLaren of Oscar Piastri.
