It was the moment F1 fans all over the world had been waiting for on Friday as drivers and teams hit the track for Free Practice 1 at the Australian Grand Prix to get the 2025 season officially underway.
With a host of rookie drivers arriving in the sport, Lewis Hamilton making his Ferrari debut and excitement over who might top the pecking order, there were plenty of talking points heading into first practice.
FP1: Norris tops first practice session of 2025 in Australia as Bearman crashes out
As the one-hour session developed amid warm, pleasant conditions in Melbourne, it was McLaren’s Lando Norris who clocked the fastest time from the high-flying Williams of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari.
There was drama elsewhere, though, as one of F1’s new faces in Ollie Bearman lost control of his car and slammed into the barriers, leaving the Haas mechanics with plenty of work to do ahead of the day’s second session.
