Carlos Sainz was in striking form on day two of running at the Red Bull Ring, as the Spaniard clocked the fastest time of the second practice session ahead of this afternoon’s Sprint.
On the soft tyre, Sainz set a time of 1m 08.610s to lead his Ferrari team mate Charles Leclerc, in second, by 0.050s. Pole-sitter from yesterday Max Verstappen finished in third, 0.168s behind Sainz – with Sergio Perez, in the other Red Bull, down in sixth.
It was an impressive session for Alpine, who after confining themselves to the pit lane for the first half of FP2, came out and showed good pace, with Ocon and Alonso in fourth and fifth, respectively. Also making it out of the pit lane late were the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, who set the seventh and ninth fastest times of the session, respectively.
