Charles Leclerc was the fastest man on day one of running in Baku, as the Ferrari driver topped the timesheets in the second practice session at this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

With temperatures dropping, Leclerc set a time of 1m 43.224s on the soft tyre to lead Sergio Perez, in P2, by 0.248s. Max Verstappen finished in P3 for the second session in a row, as he was 0.356s further back of Leclerc, with the Alpine of Fernando Alonso in fourth.

Carlos Sainz finished in P5 in the other Ferrari, having failed to set a competitive time on the soft tyre, just ahead of Pierre Gasly in sixth. George Russell finished in P7, while his Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton was down in 12th.

FP2: Leclerc heads Red Bulls by over 0.2s in second Baku practice session

There were no red flags in the session, but Alex Albon did hit the barriers on the home straight, which left his Williams FW44 with damaged suspension.
