With four teams in contention for pole position, it was Charles Leclerc who put together a remarkable fastest lap of 1m 41.365s to claim P1 ahead of Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz around the streets of Baku.
While championship leader Max Verstappen qualified in P6, his rival Lando Norris made a shock exit in Q1 as yellow flags prevented him from improving in P17. For the first time this season, Sergio Perez also successfully beat his Red Bull team mate in qualifying with a P4 finish.

Elsewhere, Williams’ Franco Colapinto set an impressive lap time for ninth while Ollie Bearman narrowly missed out on Q3 as he outqualified his experienced teammate Nico Hulkenberg.
The drivers pushed to the limit as many grazed the barriers to bring out momentary yellow flags, but the session was ultimately free of any major incidents, although Alex Albon had a bizarre moment at the end as his team left a fan on his car.
