George Russell took his third pole position of the season in qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, pipping Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly to the top in a nail-biting session.
Mercedes dominated all three hours of practice in the cooler conditions before Russell narrowly beat the lead Ferrari by 0.098s, with Gasly harnessing his podium-worthy performance from last time out to charge to the second row of the grid.

Charles Leclerc will line up next to him with Max Verstappen and Lando Norris marginally further back, as Yuki Tsunoda, Oscar Piastri and Nico Hulkenberg claimed the remaining spots in the top half.
Despite putting in some rapid laps throughout qualifying, Lewis Hamilton was resigned to P10 after going wide on his final flying lap, while the other shock of the session came from Red Bull’s Sergio Perez taking an early exit in Q1.
There was also heartbreak for Franco Colapinto, who significantly damaged his Williams in a major crash at the end of Q2.
