HIGHLIGHTS: Watch the thrilling action from qualifying at Silverstone as Russell beats Hamilton to home pole
George Russell charged to pole position on home soil in a pulsating, wet-dry qualifying session at Silverstone, getting the better of Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren’s Lando Norris.
Russell pulled out a sublime lap of 1m 25.819s during the second Q3 runs to jump ahead of Hamilton, who had briefly held provisional pole, and Norris, who backed out of his final effort.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was only fourth fastest, having taken a wild trip through the gravel in Q1, with Oscar Piastri winding up fifth in his McLaren and Nico Hulkenberg starring en route to sixth for Haas.
There were surprises earlier in the session when the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez spun out of Q1 after switching to slicks on a still-damp track, followed by Charles Leclerc falling at the Q2 hurdle in his Ferrari.
