Ferrari locked out the front row ahead of tomorrow’s race in Miami after Charles Leclerc produced a stunning late lap to take his third pole position of the season, ahead of team mate Carlos Sainz.

Leclerc left it late but set a time of 1m 28.796s under the intense Miami heat, with team mate Sainz a further 0.190s behind. Max Verstappen was unable to get a final run in but his first lap – which had put him on provisional pole – was quick enough to see him qualify in P3, ahead of team mate Sergio Perez in P4.

Valtteri Bottas was the best of the rest, as the Alfa Romeo driver qualified in P5, just ahead of former Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton in sixth. The other Mercedes driven by George Russell was eliminated in Q2, with the young Briton set to start the race in P12.
