INSIGHT: How often does the team that tops testing win the Constructors’ title?

As the build-up continues to the new season, we wondered how often the team that tops testing goes on to the win the Constructors' Championship. We asked the Formula 1 data analysts to have a look, and they came back with some interesting conclusions.

Every year the F1 teams gather for at least one pre-season test where they try out their new cars for the first time and try to iron out any problems before the first race of the season.

Of course, no one outside each team really knows what run plan is being used, what parts are being run, how much fuel is onboard and how far the power unit is turned up, so predicting the competitive order from the testing time sheets is difficult.
