Kvyat set for first engine penalty of 2014
Daniil Kvyat will become the first driver of the season to take a grid drop because of an engine change after Toro Rosso put a new V6 into his car at Monza on Friday evening. It is the Russian’s sixth engine of the year.
Under 2014 regulations, each driver is allowed to use no more than five of any of the six power unit components over the course of the season, those components being the engine, MGU-K, MGU-H, energy store, turbocharger and control electronics.
Kvyat’s engine change means he will start 10 places down on whatever qualifying position he achieves for Sunday’s Formula 1 Gran Premio d'Italia 2014. If the Russian qualifies too low down on the grid for the full 10-place penalty to be applied, he'll drop the remaining number of grid slots at the next race in Singapore.
