Lawson gears up for Red Bull debut with private F1 test at Jerez

Liam Lawson recently got behind the wheel of a Red Bull for the first time in 2025 as the New Zealander ramps up preparations for his debut with the senior team.

Already a super-sub in 2023, Lawson returned to F1 as Daniel Ricciardo’s replacement at sister outfit RB (now Racing Bulls) towards the end of last season, subsequently doing enough to earn a Red Bull promotion in place of the struggling Sergio Perez.

Earlier this month, Lawson and Red Bull headed to the Jerez circuit in Spain, where their new driver got a chance to sample the double championship-winning RB19 from the 2023 campaign.

This gave the 23-year-old another valuable chance to work with engineers and mechanics following several previous private outings and tyre tests in Red Bull machinery.

Lawson, who has also been embedding himself at the Red Bull Technology Campus in Milton Keynes, will be back in action in Bahrain this week as part of F1’s official pre-season test.

All 10 teams are involved with one car each, meaning Lawson is set to split running with new team mate and reigning four-time World Champion Max Verstappen.
