Lawson to replace Hadjar again at Red Bull as Tsunoda continues to substitute for Racing Bulls in Monza

Red Bull have confirmed that Liam Lawson will again replace Isack Hadjar at Red Bull for the Italian Grand Prix weekend as the Frenchman continues his recovery from a wrist injury.

Lawson stepped in at the Milton Keynes-based outfit last time out in Zandvoort, where he took home points for the squad in P7 on race day.

Now the New Zealander will get a second opportunity with the team as Hadjar is set to sit out another round while his rehabilitation continues.

Yuki Tsunoda, meanwhile, is set to fill Lawson’s Racing Bulls seat for a second weekend, giving the Japanese driver another outing after losing his spot on the grid at the end of 2025.

A statement from Red Bull reads: “Liam will drive alongside Max [Verstappen] at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, while Isack continues to make encouraging progress following the wrist injury sustained during the summer break.

“The team is closely monitoring his rehabilitation and will take no unnecessary risks with his return to competition and wishes him a speedy recovery.”

Racing Bulls, meanwhile, put out a message on social media stating: “Yuki will drive for the team at the Italian GP this weekend.”

Tsunoda spoke positively about his experience after returning to action at the Dutch Grand Prix, having only just missed out on a point in P11.

“I definitely enjoyed it overall, and yeah, I think I gave it 100%, as much as I can,” the 26-year-old said. “I think I did pretty okay."

Over at Red Bull, Lawson admitted that it had been “challenging” to adapt to the RB22 within a limited timescale but was left feeling positive about his performance.

“It's been a good weekend,” he explained. “It was good to extract everything out of Quali. It's been tough to try and get my head around this car in a short space of time, but I've enjoyed it.”

Also returning to action in Monza will be Ayumu Iwasa, who is set to drive Verstappen’s Red Bull during Free Practice 1 on Friday.
