MUST-SEE: Perez gets away with big moment on Lap 2 in China

Sergio Perez parlayed a stupendous four-car-passing start into an eighth place finish in Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix. But what you might not know is just how close the Mexican came to undoing all that hard work on the second lap of the race…

As the video above shows, Perez was quick to jump on the accelerator as the Virtual Safety Car ended on Lap 2 of the race, following the opening lap fracas between the McLarens and Daniil Kvyat’s Toro Rosso.

But as he closed in on the rear of Daniel Ricciardo’s Renault, the front end of his Racing Point washed out, leaving him slithering off the road and across the grass at Turn 8. That then left Perez vulnerable to attack from Ricciardo’s team mate Nico Hulkenberg, with the Mexican only just able to keep the German at bay.

So, no harm done then - but we bet there were a few choice words uttered into his specially-designed race helmet
