There was no end of action on circuit in Sakhir, but there was also plenty going on away from the track throughout the 2016 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix meeting. Here's our social media roundup of just a few of the highlights...

Surf's up

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo decided that Thursday's surprise showers in Sakhir were the perfect opportunity to practice his boarding skills - even if the only one he could find had wheels on it...

Fans out in force

Force India's Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez - along with their fellow drivers - helped bring a personal touch to the spectator experience in Sakhir.

Music for the masses

Big-name race weekend concerts meant there was plenty to please music as well as race fans in Bahrain - Mercedes' Nico Rosberg among them.

Flying high

F1 teams would probably object to one of their star drivers jumping out of a plane just prior to a race. Lewis Hamilton found a way round that.

A royal visit

F1 fan and paddock regular Juan Carlos I of Spain was among the Bahrain visitors, pictured here with compatriots Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz (senior).

A new role for Niki

Three-time world champion Niki Lauda has driven every type of car, flown endless varieties of plane - and now he's in charge of steering the tea trolley.

Cool for cats

Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz chose the Sakhir weekend to reveal a new mascot - one that would have felt very much at home in the deserts of Bahrain.

Going back to our roots

Every F1 driver loves a kart race, and Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz are no exception. In a TV special the Toro Rosso team mates took on former races Jonny Herbert and Davide Valsecchi. In case you are wondering, Verstappen won, while Sainz set the fastest lap.

Boxing clever

Muhammad Ali may be his team mate Lewis Hamilton's hero, but it's Mercedes' Nico Rosberg who appears to have perfected the legendary boxer's fancy footwork.

A warm welcome...

Manor's Indonesian rookie Rio Haryanto has a huge following among his countrymen, and many of them turned out to greet him on Thursday evening.

...and a fond farewell

Former friends and colleagues gathered on Saturday evening to raise a glass in tribute to much-loved British F1 journalist Alan Henry who passed away last month.
