Porsche say F1 remains ‘an attractive environment’ after ruling out Red Bull partnership

Porsche have said that Formula 1 remains “an attractive environment” for the iconic German marque, after announcing that a mooted partnership with Red Bull Racing wouldn’t come to fruition.

In a statement on Friday morning of the Italian Grand Prix weekend, Porsche confirmed that they had been investigating a partnership with Red Bull, but that ultimately that partnership “would not come about”.

The statement continued: “In the course of the last few months, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG and Red Bull GmbH have held talks on the possibility of Porsche’s entry into Formula 1. The two companies have now jointly come to the conclusion that these talks will no longer be continued.

“The premise was always that a partnership would be based on an equal footing, which would include not only an engine partnership but also the team. This could not be achieved.”

Despite pulling back from the potential Red Bull alliance, however, the statement added that Formula 1 – which will feature new engine regulations from 2026 onwards, including an increased electrification element and 100% sustainable fuel – remained an “attractive environment”, as they refused to rule out future involvement.

“With the finalised rule changes, the racing series nevertheless remains an attractive environment for Porsche, which will continue to be monitored.”

Audi – who, like Porsche, are owned by the Volkswagen Group – announced at this year’s Belgian Grand Prix that they would enter the sport as an engine supplier in 2026, following the unveiling of the new engine rules.
