George Russell made a dream start to Sunday night’s Singapore Grand Prix, expertly maintaining his pole position advantage over Max Verstappen on the run down to Turn 1, while team mates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri dramatically made contact behind them.
As Russell and Verstappen filed their way through the first chicane, a fast-starting Norris launched a bold move on championship leader Piastri – going so deep that he initially tagged the Dutchman’s Red Bull before banging wheels with the sister McLaren.
“I had contact,” Norris reported over the radio, with damage visible to his front-left endplate. “Just keep an eye on everything.”
“Yeah, I mean that wasn’t very teamlike, but sure,” came Piastri’s take, before he followed up: “So, are we cool with Lando just barging me out of the way?”
Behind the lead Mercedes, Red Bull and the two McLarens, Kimi Antonelli dropped to sixth in the other Silver Arrow, slotting between Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
