REVEALED: The F1 team bosses choose their top 10 drivers of 2024
Max Verstappen has been voted driver of the year for the fourth successive year by Formula 1’s team principals in our annual poll after his clinched his fourth title in 2024.
We asked each of the grid’s 10 team bosses to submit a list of their top 10 drivers of the year, under the proviso their individual ranking would remain secret.
We handed out scores based on the current F1 points system, with the top driver in each list receiving 25 points down to one for 10th. Scores were then combined to create our ranking.
For the first time in the seven years we’ve done this ranking, a driver has received the maximum number of points, with team bosses voting unanimously to put Verstappen top of the pile.
McLaren’s championship runner up Lando Norris finished P2, one place up on last year, and 75 points adrift of Verstappen with Charles Leclerc completing the podium for Ferrari.
Oscar Piastri, with whom Norris celebrated a first world title as McLaren won the constructors’ championship for the first time since 1998, was up three places to P4 in our poll.
Carlos Sainz was up one place to fifth in his fourth and final season for Ferrari, ahead of a move to Williams, with George Russell up three places to sixth.
THE BIG QUIZ OF 2024: 20 questions on the 2024 Formula 1 season
