Just hours after Red Bull Racing became the third team to unveil pictures of its new F1 car, Daniel Ricciardo became the first driver to sample a 2018 machine on-track as he shookdown the RB14 at a soggy Silverstone.
Under the regulations each team is allowed a ‘filming day’, during which they can complete up to 100km on non-race specification tyres.
Unlike world champions Mercedes who have made a habit in recent years of using the day to shakedown their new machine ahead of pre-season testing - something they will continue on Thursday when they officially unveil the W09 - Red Bull have traditionally eschewed the opportunity in favour of more development time in the factory.
However, after several slow starts to recent seasons, the Milton Keynes-based team have broken with convention and pushed ahead with a run they hope will allow them to ‘deal with any snags now’ ahead of next week's opening test in Barcelona, Spain.
