Callum Ilott won’t have enjoyed many better days in motorsport. The Ferrari junior dominated the Feature Race to seal an emphatic home victory at Silverstone, which hauled him into the Championship lead at the expense of his fellow Ferrari Academy driver Robert Shwartzman.

The Briton’s getaway off the line was textbook, but ultimately, it was his impressive tyre management that proved pivotal in his second victory at this level.

Ilott, Lundgaard and Aitken made up the top three for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix

Ilott finished nearly nine seconds ahead of Renault junior Christian Lundgaard, whose visibly-degraded Pirellis prevented him from mounting any form of serious assault on P1.

The top-three remained unchanged from qualifying, as Williams reserve Jack Aitken secured his first podium of the season at his home race.

Shwartzman managed to make up three places from 11th, but it wasn’t enough to retain his grip on the lead of the drivers' championship. The PREMA racer will at least console himself with reverse grid pole for the Sprint Race tomorrow at 1010 (local time), although he will not have the opportunity to return to first in the title race, having fallen 17 points behind Ilott.
