Verstappen a double winner at FIA Prize Giving
Max Verstappen’s stunning pass of Nico Rosberg in last month’s Formula 1 Grande Premio do Brasil 2016 has won this year’s FIA Action of the Year prize. Verstappen was also voted Personality of the Year.
The Red Bull driver’s overtake was up against eight similarly entertaining moments from other FIA-sanctioned racing series, with fans voting online for their favourite, and Verstappen received the award at Friday evening’s FIA Prize Giving Gala in the Austrian capital of Vienna.
Remarkably, it is the Dutchman’s third victory in a row in the category, having scooped the same award last year for his daring move around the outside of Sauber’s Felipe Nasr at Spa-Francorchamps’ fearsome Blanchimont corner during the 2015 Belgian Grand Prix. The year before he won it for a spectacular last-lap pass of 2016 GP2 Series runner-up Antonio Giovinazzi in a European F3 race at Imola.
In the Personality of the Year stakes, voted for by the media, Verstappen picked up the prize for the second time in succession.
