Vettel set for Austria grid penalty after gearbox change
Sebastian Vettel is due to carry a five-place grid penalty into this weekend’s Formula 1 Grosser Preis von Osterreich 2016 after Ferrari were forced to make an unscheduled change of his gearbox.
The change was made after the Italian team discovered metal filings in the German’s gearbox following the 2016 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe in Baku.
The switch was confirmed by the FIA at the end of an eventful first day for Vettel in Spielberg, during which he finished third and fourth in the respective practice sessions but also had a big spin into the gravel at Turn 2 after a brake bias issue.
