WATCH: Alonso gets some extra pre-season laps in with Aston Martin at Jerez

Fernando Alonso returned to F1 action with Aston Martin on Tuesday as the two-time champion took part in a Pirelli tyre test at the Jerez circuit in southern Spain.

After debuting for his new team at the 2022 post-season test in Abu Dhabi, the Spaniard jumped back into the cockpit of Aston Martin’s AMR22 for some extra running ahead of the 2023 campaign.

As the first of two test days drew to a close, Aston Martin shared a compilation of Alonso’s duties on their social channels – capturing time in the garage and flashes of on-track action.

Mercedes have joined Aston Martin at the circuit, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton set to share time in the W13 over the two days of running – following a similar outing at Paul Ricard last week.

After wrapping up the Jerez test, Aston Martin will prepare to pull the covers off their 2023 challenger on February 13, while Mercedes are set to launch their new car two days later.
