Formula 1 is set to race at Imola for a third year in a row – with Max Verstappen looking to bounce back from a DNF finish in Australia by repeating his 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix win this weekend.

Last year, in wet conditions that saw Fernando Alonso hit the wall on his way to the grid and Charles Leclerc go off on the formation lap, Verstappen drove brilliantly after starting in third. The Red Bull racer overtook title rival and pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton and his team mate Sergio Perez at the start to take P1 and would later go on to seal his first victory on Italian soil.

Hamilton came home in second despite crashing into the barriers and falling to ninth place at one point. However, a red flag caused by a crash from George Russell and Valtteri Bottas meant that the seven-time world champion had time to pit and change his front wing to then make his way through the field.

Lando Norris had been riding in second place after overtaking Charles Leclerc. But the McLaren racer would ultimately finish in P3 after he was overtaken by Hamilton.
